Aperture isn't quite a planet; it's a broken-down saucer-style spaceship (currently with a massive hole near the bottom of the hull) that orbits Terra.

GLaDOS lives in this ship and controls most of its functions. She speaks to other characters via loudspeakers and will sometimes play music or automated ads on them.

A swarm of genetically-altered crows nests within the hole-hull. They are loud and screechy and obnoxious. Most of them seem like ordinary crows, though every once in awhile you'll have one with an extra eye or is four times as big as the others or belches deadly neurotoxin.

TERRA

The largest planet, and where all characters find themselves landing when the first arrive is Terra. It starts out approximately a quarter of a mile in diameter, but will get larger as the void becomes more populated. There is a single large river that spirals around the planet, running from north to south. At the north end is a freshwater spring, the source of its waters. Where the river ends there's a saltwater sea, complete with beaches and the occasional palm-like tree.

It is at the moment the only planet with an Earth-like night/day cycle. It is located exactly between the sun and moon, spinning on its axis that there is a 12-hour day, 12-hour night with dawn and dusk in between. Fancy stuff.

Scattered over the surface of the planet are various forms of housing—dirt huts, rickety looking cabins, the occasional town house. None of the buildings are anything approaching luxurious, though not all are run-down. They are, however, only furnished with the bare essentials: a few beds or cots (depending on the type of home), some chairs, a table, at least some kind of shelving or cabinets . . . All very basic, enough to at least keep someone sheltered and rested, but not much more than that.

Orbiting Terra’s equator is the Lunchaterium (yes, it is labeled as such). Lunch is not so much planet-shaped as it is a single building, with one large circular room. At the center is the Lunch Lady, a towering behemoth of a steam-powered robot, with a dozen friendly-if-rather-unattractive brass faces, and a hundred arms, poised at all times to serve up any of the infinite dishes in her repertoire. She has been programmed with the cuisine of a thousand thousand worlds, and each dish has been carefully over-cooked and under-seasoned with as close a proximity of love as can be accomplished with steam and gears.

Lunch is open for meals once each four hours through the day and night, and ninety minutes is allotted for each meal. After that the self-cleaning cycle begins, and you probably don’t want to be around for that. There is a rope ladder dangling from the entrance; for the mobility-impaired, please ring the bell and a wicker basket will be lowered.

Why can't I hold all these planets?
